In the eight months following the spread of the coronavirus, Palestinian lives have suffered along with the rest of the world the severe consequences of the pandemic in the economy and the health sector, at a time when unemployment and poverty levels have witnessed an alarming rise.
Join us for an online conversation with Mahmoud Ziadeh, Raja Khaldi, and Dr. Weeam Hammoudeh on the role of Palesintian Labor Unions amid the spread of the coronavirus.
The speakers will talk in Arabic and simultaneous translation to English will be available
Mahmoud Ziadeh: Founded and co-founded several unions in Palestine, in different fields. In addition, he participated and led many unionism struggles and movements in Palestine. In 2007, he established the Independent Unions committee. He is also a writer, researcher in the field of Unionism in Palestine and abroad.
Raja Khalidi: Director General of the Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute (MAS). He is a development economist who has researched and published widely on Palestinian economic development, working with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) until 2013.
Dr. Weam Hamoudeh: is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Community and Public Health at Birzeit University, Palestine, where she is also the coordinator for the mental health unit. She has an academic interest in understanding how political and social transformations impact health, psychosocial wellbeing, and population processes, particularly in conflict areas
